So a long time ago there was this girl. She was born in a hot sandy land, This place was so Arid that even the goats didn’t like living there. The girl had dark hair. It was very long because the girl’s mother didn’t let her cut it, ever. She was sure that men would think her more beautiful if she had longer hair. So by the time she was like 18 her hair was down her back and all the way to the top of her bottom. She had Beige skin. Everyone said her eyes shined and glowed exactly like diamonds. All the villagers thought the girl was beautiful, Even though she was born into a poor family. From the moment she was about five years old people started trying to get in her old mans graces. They could see she was going to be a beauty and wanted her rarities to themselves. This old man of hers was a shallow man, He was a fool and he didn’t really care for much. Just drinking and eating. One day a rich looking man showed up on a black horse, with about 20 men and some sort of a cage on a trailer, He was from a city on the other side of the country and he worked for a man who collected beautiful things. This man thought that his boss would want this strange girl with glowing eyes and so he offered the old man a price. The old man didn’t even try to bargain the collector. He took the first price and didn’t even look at the girl. The collector grabbed the girl and tied her up. He put her in the cage and they left the town as fast as the man had entered it. The girl was sad to leave her town, But she was also terrified at the prospect of going to the strange city to meet the strange man who collected beautiful things. She wondered what other than herself he had collected? Exotic animals maybe? She thought that this new place may be some sort of zoo almost. Would she be locked up? Forced to have relations with strange men? She didn’t know and the more she thought about it the surer she became that she didn’t want to know and she certainly didn’t want to find out. She had thought about this for quite a while when she noticed the cart-cage coming to a stop. It was starting to get dark. She knew she had to get away. The collector sent his men out to hunt for the nights food. He let her out of the cage, He said she needed food and he didn’t see her as so much of a threat to keep her locked up, there was a warm fire and he thought it might do her some good. He felt it a shame that he had put such a woman in a cage in the first place. He was sure his mother would be ashamed If she knew her son was treating womenfolk like this. She begged him to let her go, but said that he couldn’t. His boss would pay him a large sum for something like her and that he needed the money for his family. The more the man talked the more angry the girl got. She didn’t want to be locked up. Let this mans family starve, she thought. She pushed him into the fire and as he writhed and tried to roll the flames off his body, she started running. She had no idea where she was and the road was so rough on her feet that soon she could barely walk, let alone run any further. She saw a heap of willow trees and sighed in relief. They could hide her at least. As she got closer to the trees she noticed the river behind them. Then she noticed the crocodile in the river. She looked back in the direction of her hot dusty home, realizing that her beauty had marred her whole existence. Hearing the men shouting, she knew they would catch up soon. She turned and walked into the water, slowly to her knees and then up to her shoulders. She could swear that the old crocodiles scales where sparkling just like diamonds.
